LOD Planner supports the Solar Decathlon!

Solar Decathlon using BIM Software

The Solar Decathlon is a competition challenging collegiate teams to design and build houses powered exclusively by the sun.

The winner is the team scoring the most points in 10 contests.

Teams must show the best blend of architectural and engineering excellence.

They must also blend innovation, market potential, building efficiency, and smart energy production.

Solar Decathlon House Example

LOD Planner is extremely excited to provide koeb with the best BIM planning software to help meet this challenge.

The pressure is high:

Design a building using innovative technologies and a mix of modern and reclaimed materials. Focus on interior comfort, four-seasons design, and architectural quality.

Managing a multi-disciplinary team in this fully BIM based project will certainly be rewarding.

These teams have been selected to compete:
  • University of Brighton, United Kingdom
  • Technical University of Civil Engineering Bucharest, Romania
  • Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Hungary
  • Universidad Politécnica Catalunya, Spain
  • Delft University of Technology, Netherlands
  • Technical University of Denmark, Denmark
  • Ghent University, Belgium
  • International Hellenic University, Greece
  • Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture et de Paysage de Lille, France
  • University of Maryland, U.S.A.
  • Politecnico di Milano, Italy
  • University of Miskolc, Hungary
  • Universidad de Sevilla, Spain
  • King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, Thailand
  • University of Applied Sciences Utrecht, Netherlands
  • Universitat Politècnica de València, Spain

These teams are not just looking for a nice BIM render or just a better solar study or just a more advanced BIM coordination approach or just better BIM quantities or just an Owner’s BIM asset model – they are looking for all of this… and much, much more!

The koeb team will use LOD Planner software to reduce the administration burden yet also retain a clear understanding of the exact scope requirements and team member’s responsibilities. The teams will be competing in these 10 contests:
  1. Architecture
  2. Engineering & Construction
  3. Energy Efficiency
  4. Communication & Social Awareness
  5. Neighbourhood Integration & Impact
  6. Innovation & Viability
  7. Circularity & Sustainability
  8. Comfort Conditions
  9. House Functioning
  10. Energy Balance
On site installation will take place in 2019! Good luck to the Koeb – BME Solar Decathlon Team! 🙌

Isn’t it time we removed the waste and risk from BIM projects in our design and construction industry?

We believe that the best way to achieve maximum BIM benefits with minimum BIM risk is to start with a collaborative BIM plan.
